“Therapy helped to recognise the stress … and use practical techniques to manage stress.” – Talking Therapies Service User

The month of April is also Stress Awareness Month, but what is stress and how do we know if we are stressed?

Experiencing stress is a normal part of life. Events in daily life can cause stress levels to increase, and these events can be both positive and negative.

However, if we experience high levels of stress and/or stress over a prolonged period of time, it can start to have adverse effects.

How you might be feeling/behaving, if you are stressed:

  • Irritable
  • Feeling indecisive or inflexible
  • Tearful
  • Having problems with sleeping

How your body might react to stress:

  • Headaches
  • Nausea, feeling sick or dizzy
  • Digestive problems
  • Indigestion or heartburn
  • Difficulty breathing

If you are experiencing signs of stress, Talking Therapies can help. Talking Therapies services provide free, expert, confidential support to help improve wellbeing.
